Rap superstar makes surprise appearance at Wellington fundraiser

If there’s one thing you can say for Nic Roldan’s annual Sunset Polo and White Party in Wellington, it’s that in addition to raising big bucks for nonprofits, it always promises a nice surprise.

This year’s big secret was well-kept and worth the wait: A private performance from rap superstar 50 Cent.

Yes. The 50 Cent.

His concert during the fifth annual Sunset Polo and White Party on Friday night was the highlight of the event at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington.

And that’s saying a lot, because each year’s fundraiser kicks off with a star-studded polo match, followed by a party and traditional Argentinian cuisine.

A flyer for the event released earlier this month touted a special guest who “has played a Super Bowl Half Time Show.”

Tickets ran $250 and were sold out by Friday night. The fundraiser benefited Sunset Polo International, with the locally based Kids Cancer Foundation and the Polo Training Foundation as this year’s benefactors.

The Sunset Polo and White Party is led each year by star polo player Roldan and held at Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, with major support from Grant and Melissa Ganzi. It’s become a must-attend event for Wellington’s social set during equestrian season.
