When I was little, my mom had a great tradition of the 10 days of Christmas. For 10 days leading up to Dec. 25, my parents would surprise my sister and me with little gifts.
I’m carrying on the tradition with my son, using Advent calendars. The season of Advent is traditionally intended as a reflective exercise to preparing for Christ’s birthday. For children, it builds excitement and wonder.
Many of the Advent calendars on this list have discounts or coupons you can apply, and some will be on sale for Black Friday. Order soon so you can start opening the tiny doors on Dec. 1!

One of the pricier items on the list, this calendar includes 24 miniature toy trains. It’s for ages 3 and up.
