Details: Free trivia and dinner this Thursday at Relay for Life kickoff in Wellington

One of the biggest single-day cancer fundraisers in Palm Beach County is gearing up for another season, kicking off with a night of trivia, free food and fun.

The Relay for Life of Palm Beach County’s kickoff event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd. In addition family-friendly trivia — and prizes! — dinner has been provided by Olive Garden, P.F. Chang’s and Maria’s Cuisine. The menu includes breadsticks, lasagna, spring rolls, sandwiches and macaroni and cheese.

In past years, the kickoff has been an introduction to what to expect for the coming year’s event. (Mark your calendar: The next Relay for Life of Palm Beach County is 3 to 9 p.m. March 11.) But the event team wanted to try something different this year instead of the same old presentation.

“We wanted it to be a great party, but we also will still give you the information you need for Relay,” said Candice Webb, team ambassador and entertainment and activities lead. Yes, we share a last name. Yes, she’s my sister.

I got involved in Relay for Life a few years ago after my father died of cancer in 2012. Candice has been event chair several times, as Relay for Life has evolved from having multiple events in the county to just one, held each year now at the South Florida Fairgrounds.

In addition to free trivia and great food, you’ll have an opportunity to learn more about Relay for Life and its mission, and sign up for a team.
